Lotus birth pictures?
I'm facilitating a birth prep class next week the 3rd stage of labour and I'd really like to show some pictures of a lotus birth.
However, the ones on the net are either not babe and placenta in one picture, or are poor quality!
I wondered if anyone either has some good pictures I could share, or know of a site where they are freely available?
I've never seen one myself and don't expect anyone really to decide to have one on the basis of me showing some pictures but I think it will be nice to show them what can be done etc and that it's not all syntometrine and CTT
Most grateful for any respone

Re: Lotus birth pictures?
Home birth diaries has a video diary of lotus birth and how the placenta is treated. It doesn't really show the third stage though, but I think the points that the mum makes about the lotus birth explain the rationale very well, and would be far more interesting to pregnant women than the actual mechanics of it. http://www.mybirth.tv/video-diary.cfm?id=20 go to the third video.

She had a lotus birth and sure wshe will share her pics.
I am almost certain Aeron had a lotus birth too last year. I am sure she will have some pics she may be happy to share too.

Wasn't as impressed with the birth though - says he's glad he's not a girl.

Re: Lotus birth pictures?
I haven't watched it for ages. I don't think I saw the edited version but saw the pure, unadulterated non- edited resus bit. That was quite grim.
It's hard to believe that was almost four years ago.

Nooooo Nonna. I didn't make myself clear enough. I meant that *my* hairstyle will be the same as when I had Maia.
I reckon this one will have lots of hair too. I keep getting heartburn.

That vid never fails to make my toes curl!
Ive just realised that when you do the lotus birth thing, the cord must dry out really quickly and turn into a kind of twirly stick type affair.
Whilst I can envisage carrying it round attached to baby if it was loose and floppy (as at birth), I cant imagine baby being attached to a wizened, rigid thing - surely you risk ripping it away all the time as the angle changes?

BP
maia's only stayed on for five days and during that time I spent it mostly in bed. She had her placenta at the bottom of her feet and she wore a baby gown. It didn't need to be moved that much and when ig did get in the way, you can re-bend it by getting it moist and reshaping the kink.

I think I sat there in shock for a whole ten minutes the first time I saw it. Tears were streaming, my hubby thought I'd lost the plot completely!

Re: Lotus birth pictures?
Yeah I had a lotus birth but you know what?....I don't think I took any photos. How strange. I was just obsessed with the baby really. Kaelyns fell off on the morning of her fourth day, I was quite surprised at how quickly the cord dried. It was hanging on by a tiny bit on the third day, then she kicked it off herself.
Will you do it again PBFH? I think I will. It kept me in bed and I swear the day it came off it was like she was more herself- interacting a lot more. I found the whole thing quite interesting.

Re: Lotus birth pictures?
I think that's one of the plus points of a LB actually. The sort of lying around with your baby thing. Women are far too quick (IMO) to be up and at them like some sort of wonder woman. When/if I start my new business I will be insisting women stay nesting for as long as possible with their newborn!

ETA: Psycho! I knew you were talking about your hair. I was trying to be like, funny innit. Obviously failed miserably, *sniff*

Re: Lotus birth pictures?
Psycho are you having a lotus birth this time? Would you recommed them? Did you see a diffrence in Maia compared to the others? Sorry for the questions,

Re: Lotus birth pictures?
I'm planning another lotus birth this time. I need to get the velvet placenta bag from a previous client of mine as it has been host for two other babies' placentae since Maia's. I even have some leftover salt from when I had Maia.
Maia was definitely very chilled. I never did have a bad night with her and I know that could be just her but I'm going by the whole 'well if there is the slightest bit of truth to it' then I shall be doing it. Plus I loved staying put for two weeks.

I know this is a dumb question but with a lotus birth is the cord clamped at all? If not is there not a risk of over or under transfusion of blood depending on position?
